Trek 2012

Just a few days after the family reunion ended, the older kids had to be ready to leave on our Stake Trek.  I mostly had everything ready in advance- it was a lot of work to find and make all the clothing, and to assemble three sets of everything, get it into 5 gallon buckets, and get it to the church on time!
The things we do for our kids.... :)

The kids left at midnight Sunday night- got very little sleep, and then walked something like 16 miles once they got to Martin's Cove.  Pretty crazy!  They got home Thursday dirty, exhausted, sunburned, but happy.  I'm so grateful for the stake leaders and all the people who put their lives on hold to be the ma's and pa's for the trek families.  That was a big sacrifice!  They were great, and I'm so glad our kids had them watching out for them.  I love that the kids have experiences like this one.  I don't know that this one experience changed their lives, but I see all of the different activities, adventures, and trials each of my children have, and I can start to see those things weaving a pattern in their lives.  It is scary to have teenagers who will be adults in a very few years!  These are great kids, though- and we're getting through this with a minimum of worry.  So grateful I get to be their Mom!
