No school! We had to do something besides sit around and play video games, but Tim had to work. I had resigned myself to a day of searching for cheap/free things to do with the kids. We were thinking of the library and the mall (thrilling) when Mom called and asked if we wanted to go to the zoo! They bought a grandparent's pass where they can bring grandkids and one additional visitor (me!).
It has been over a year since our zoo membership expired. In the year that we had it, the kids felt like they owned the zoo- it was very familiar to them, and they really loved some of those animals, so it was great to go back.
I think this was my favorite part of the whole day- this huge ball of bats. They were NOT behind glass!
The wolves were out! I had never seen them so close to the fence before. All was explained when the keeper showed up to feed them a few seconds later.
The kids do NOT weigh 922 pounds- the scaled starts at almost 500.
The funniest moment of the day came when we were about to leave- the kids had been playing on the sopping wet playground, and Annie's pants were less than dry. I made her turn around and show me her bottom so I could take a picture. She obliged, but immediately turned around and said, "Don't put this on your blog!"
So I won't.
She knows me too well.
