We have lived in PG for 4 years, and we've been visiting Mom and Dad here for 15, but I had never managed to hike to the G. Somehow the idea didn't really appeal to me- it looks like a steep, dusty hike with no protection from the beating sun. There was a cooler day right the beginning of June, though, and the hike was on our summer bucket list, so we just went!
It was pretty steep, and pretty long, and a little dusty, but I was amazed that there were long stretches of shaded trail! From the bottom of the mountain, you can't really see all the live oak that grows along the path. I was grateful for it, especially since I carried Eliza most of the way up the mountain.
Can you believe that we made it all the way up and then forgot to take a picture there? This is the point on our way back down when we realized that- and by then I was not going back up. I was a little worried about holding Eliza and walking back down the first part, since it is really steep, but Price said, "Do you want me to take her?" I handed her over, he left, and I met up with him at a flatter part of the trail. It is so fun to have kids I can trust like that, who can do things I can't!
One of the fun things about this hike is that you can watch our house the whole way- it just keeps getting farther and farther away, but it's right below us. I love having the mountains in our backyard!
