We started off the day with the Freedom Festival parade, where we got to see Rebekah marching with the band. At the last minute, Mr. Burgoyne asked if Price and Josh could come help by carrying the banner, so we watched them, too! Alas, I only took a picture of them after the fact. They were great banner carriers, though- lots of the bands had a banner carried by a really tall guy and a petite girl... so they were kinda crooked. P and J were a matched set! :)
Fourth of July is always birthday week around here- mine is on the 3rd, Dad's is on the 5th, so we decided to compromise and invite everyone over on the 4th. We had all of our clan, Grandma Shipley, Kai, Peter and Mary, Mom and Dad, and Ben. The weather was gorgeously cool, so we all hung out in the backyard, got sprinkled on occasionally, and ate lots of good food.

And, of course, now it's Emma's turn.
I think this is my favorite pictures ever!
And really, what can I say about this one?
Mom made the birthday cakes- this one is Tres Leches,
and this one is carrot cake. Yum....
Almost everyone left before it got dark, but Mom, Dad and Kai stuck around for fireworks. We went through several boxes of sparklers,
and then watched the PG fireworks from our front porch. It was awesome to just walk out the front door to watch them, and it was nice to have some cover when it started raining part way through!
We had lots of very happy, very tired kids that night- not to mention their parents!
What a great day.
